Dragon Festival

This year marked the 12th annual Dragon Festival (formerly the Pan Asian Festival), held at Lake Phalen in St Paul.
My company is a sponsor for the event, and pays for us to compete in the Dragon Boat races (this year was the 6th annual boat race). This year was my first year participating in the event. It was so much fun, I will definitely be back next year!

We met on Saturday morning to learn how to row a dragon boat (so much different than paddling a canoe, which I've done many, many times). At least half of our team had never participated in these races before (myself included). We met again on Sunday for the big races. First up against ING (another financial company), and then again Twin Cities Dragon (a team that practices this all year long! Talk about intimidating!). We raced twice against each team, once on the outside lane and once on the inside lane. We 'won' all four of these runs!! They time each run, and add the time together to come up with the standings.

We ended up placing 7th out of a total of 26 teams. The first 6 places win trophys. I guess we'll have to come back next year & show them what we're made of! :-)

I had so much fun with everything the whole weekend. It was really great!
